s/v Iron Will is FOR SALE
2001 Steel Centre Cockpit Cutter-Rigged ketch
44′ LOD * 50′ LOA * 26GT
WHAT WE LOVE about this boat …
- top of our list when WE were buying was a strong, safe steel boat with an integral keel to keep our family safe; Iron Will ticks all those boxes
- separate cabins for parents and kids/guests
- everything is solid and well made, nothing is flimsy or wobbly (stanchions etc)
- great design and sea-kindly hull, she sails like a witch!
- not a tippy boat (could play Lego under way)
- ketch rig gives versatile sail combo/easy to short hand
- a reliable engine with low hours
- pilot house for shelter and snug centre cockpit – felt safe and “tucked away” for kids (and adults!)
- big freezer and big tanks meant we could “stay out” for ages
- heaps of storage
- slightly oversized anchor = good nights sleep
- kids loved the big solid pulpit for dolphin spotting
- davits aft – we lifted the tender every night (1 person job)

This is the blurb from the previous broker …
Iron Will is a professionally designed and well constructed steel ketch rigged cruising yacht. She comprises of a two cabin layout with accommodation for approximately six. The forward cabin is a v-berth configuration and the private aft cabin is a double berth, the saloon seating can covert to another double berth. The galley is well equipped and the refrigeration is a eutectic system. The engine is an 80 horsepower Ford diesel and she is shaft driven. The sail wardrobe consists of a Main-sail, Mizzen, Storm, Inner, Head-sail and a Try-sail. The rigging is of a very strong design and engineered to combat heavy seagoing conditions and originally designed and built for an Antarctic expedition.

The backstory: In 2016 we decided to take a 12month family sailing sabbatical and wanted a strong, safe boat that we gave us the options of coastal or offshore sailing. The vessel had to be:
- safe,
- easy to sail,
- ready to go, AND
- affordable
It took some hunting around but we found the perfect boat in Iron Will. She was ready to go and we also added bits as well (eg our insurers asked for new standing rigging). We stepped on board with our belongings and she’s been the perfect home and “adventure capsule” for us for the last 9 months, as you can see from our blog.
The kids are now ready to be ashore again so Iron Will is For Sale. She is currently in Hervey Bay Marina (flights from Brisbane) and available for inspection and/or daysails (we’ve also got our Sept 2017 out-of-water survey available). The marina is perfectly located for cruising the beautiful and sheltered Great Sandy Straits and Fraser Island.
